In Chinese mythology, the turtle or tortoise is the symbol of unchanging stability and longevity. Perhaps that has something to do with the fact that sea turtles have an extraordinary sense of time and location. They are highly sensitive to the Earth’s magnetic field and use it to navigate. They live up to 189 years. Most species return to the nest at the location where they were born, which seems to indicate an imprint of that location’s magnetic features.
